The Opportunity

Join BC Ferries as a Lead Investigator and play a key role in supporting our commitment to safety, service excellence, and the protection of people and property. In this pivotal position, you will lead investigations into security concerns, identify potential vulnerabilities, and recommend proactive solutions to enhance our security posture across the organization.

Working alongside the Director, Corporate Security in all aspects of security investigations, your primary accountabilities include leading and supporting confidential and privileged investigations on a variety of subjects including fraud, misrepresentation, compliance issues, and other matters as assigned.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Security, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing proactive strategies related to incident trending such as internal and external theft, fraud and other acts of unlawful behaviour;
  • Conducting thorough routine to complex investigations primarily focused on suspected theft, fraud and other unlawful acts committed against the Company across multiple lines of business that includes reviewing, interpreting and analysing information to identify potential areas of fraudulent abuse;
  • Informing and discussing the possibility of civil or criminal action with law enforcement agencies and other judicial authorities;
  • Participating in preparation of file documentation for forwarding to regulatory bodies and/or law enforcement;
  • Maintaining liaison with regulatory bodies, law enforcement and others to obtain assistance in conducting investigations;
  • Providing confidential administrative support to the Corporate Security department including issues of a highly sensitive nature;
  • Supporting the Security ID Card Program which includes printing new hire, contractor and replacement cards for damaged/lost/expired cards as well as removing access and travel to cards and trouble shooting card issues;
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and communication of policy and procedure updates related to security roles and responsibilities;
  • Providing support to internal departments in relation to fraud and data tracking/reporting as well as fraud risk management;

What you bring to the team

  • Degree, diploma, or certification or equivalent, in a related discipline such as but not limited to administrative law, investigation and enforcement, or criminology
  • B.C. Security Workers Licence with Private Investigator designation
  • Minimum 2 years’ directly related experience in a Corporate Security role with strong demonstrated facilitation and communication skills
  • Administrative experience in a corporate office environment managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Experience in investigations support, investigations and general compliance and enforcement activities
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work independently or in a team in a fast paced, dynamic and changing environment
  • Excellent organizational skills achieved through flexibility, multitasking and time management
  • Detail oriented and a high level of accuracy, excellent problem solving and analytical skills

Additional information

The target salary range: $64,300 - $80,400 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
