Job summary

WSP in Sudbury, Ontario is seeking a Lead I&C Engineer to provide senior instrumentation and controls expertise for mining and heavy industrial projects across Canada. You will lead design, mentor teams, and drive safe, reliable operations from concept through commissioning.

You bring 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience, a degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering, and Canadian P.Eng. eligibility.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience in heavy industrial facilities.
• Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline.
• P.Eng. designation or eligibility in Canada.
• Experience leading instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors.
• Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA and process automation platforms.
• Proven ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists.
• Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments.
• Strong understanding of safety systems, hazardous area classification, and applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to lead complex projects and mentor junior staff while maintaining high technical excellence.

• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards across all deliverables

Based in our Sudbury, Ontario office as a Lead I&C Engineer, you will support as a senior subject matter expert in the instrumentation and controls engineering for both new construction and brownfield mining, metals and other heavy industrial projects, influencing project outcomes from concept through completion. Your work will help our clients operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• At least 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience supporting heavy industrial facilities.
• Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Canada
• Extensive experience leading and delivering instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors
• Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and process automation platforms
• Proven ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists
• Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments

Compensation:

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $135,200 - $179,100

MB & ON: $123,300 - $169,800

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $122,100 - $162,200
