Lead Heavy Duty Mechanic

FIFO to various sites (Saskatchewan/Ontario)

Introduction

Brunel is seeking a skilled Lead Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair of vehicles, machinery, and equipment for our mining client. As the team leader, you will ensure all mechanical work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. This role involves diagnosing complex mechanical issues, supervising a team of mechanics, and coordinating maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mechanics, assigning tasks and providing guidance on repair and maintenance work.
  • Work with the mechanics on all PM and repair work with a leadership role, ensuring quality, safety and consistency.
  • Train and mentor team members to improve their technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
  • Perform advanced diagnostic assessments of vehicles and equipment to identify issues.
  • Ensure accuracy in problem identification.
  • Execute complex repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and other mechanical systems.
  • Establish and enforce maintenance schedules to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and industry standards.
  • Conduct operational checks to verify successful repairs.
  • Monitor inventory levels for parts and supplies, placing orders as needed.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and in good working condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and parts usage.
  • Prepare reports on team performance, equipment status, and work completed.

Requirements

  • Technical school or specialized training preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a mechanic, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical systems, diagnostic tools, and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • ASE Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment.
  • Comfortable working in various environments.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively under pressure
