Job summary

City of Welland is seeking a Lead Hand – Parks and Open Spaces to supervise on-site maintenance crews, prioritize work, and ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards. The role covers parks, open spaces, trails, cemeteries, sports fields, and special events.

The candidate should hold a 2-year diploma in a related field, have 3 years of Parks/Forestry experience, and possess a valid Class D driver’s license with Z endorsement. First Aid/CPR and Book 7 Traffic Control are required.

Qualifications

• Two year post-secondary diploma required and relevant field experience.
• Valid First Aid and CPR Certification required.
• Book 7 Traffic Control Certificate is required.
• Experience in Parks and Forestry operations is preferred.
• Able to operate safety-sensitive equipment and follow OH&S guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site maintenance crews, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety.
• Lead seasonal operations for summer and winter duties including snow removal.
• Coordinate events setup and takedown with staff and contractors.
• Inspect playgrounds, trails, and park assets; address hazards.
• Provide guidance to staff and ensure documentation of activities.
