Lead Hand - Chassis, Westech

SUMMARY:

We are actively recruiting for a Lead Hand to lead our Chassis Bay. They will be responsible for overseeing all activities related to the check-ins, maintenance, and mechanical preparation of chassis. This role ensures that incoming chassis are properly checked in, winterized, and prepped according to engineering layouts. The Lead Hand supervises the chassis team and collaborates with engineering and operations to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 preferred)
  • 2-3 years of experience in heavy-duty truck or Vac truck chassis work.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, especially with chassis
  • Experience with Vac Truck Manufacturing, an asset
  • Proven leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering layout
  • Familiarity with winterization procedures and cold-weather truck prep.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of Chassis programming an asset (allision, Cummins)
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Able to effectively communicate with all other departments in the facility
  • Detail-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and positive team attitude

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive and log new chassis upon arrival.
  • Conduct thorough inspections using a standardized checklist, including frame integrity, suspension, and air lines readiness.
  • Identify and report any defects or discrepancies to the foreman and production manager.
  • Winterize in-stock chassis to ensure readiness for cold-weather operations.
  • Ensure all stored chassis meet operational and safety standards.
  • Lead and mentor chassis bay technicians in mechanical tasks.
  • Assign and assist with daily duties based on engineering layouts and production priorities.
  • Monitor progress and ensure work is completed to spec and on schedule.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and layouts specific to the builds.
  • Guide and assist the team in installing mechanical components such as PTO systems, blowers, transfer case assemblies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe chassis bay environment.
  • Track inventory of tools, parts, and consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects that may be required from time to time
