General Description of Class

In the Facilities Management department, we take pride in the development, operations, and stewardship of our buildings and grounds to provide a welcoming, service-oriented, clean, and safe environment for our students, faculty and staff. Under general supervision, to act as a leader of a group of Service Workers - Caretaking, working with them and leading them by example.


Typical Duties


The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required and the extent of responsibility involved in this position. They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated. Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.

(a) inspects work done by the group and directs corrections as needed;
(b) reports attendance and performance of members of the group to supervisor;
(c) arranges and directs training of new staff members in order to ensure all tasks arecompleted in a safe and efficient manner;
(d) responsible for maintaining inventory, issuing and accounting of materials and equipment;
(e) responsible for keys and building security during shift, including locking and unlockingdoors;
(f) receives instructions and interprets them to the members of the group;
(g) identifies and reports defective equipment to supervisor;
(h) readies mops and other materials for laundry pick-ups;
(i) reports required repairs to buildings to Supervisor
(j) receives/stores supplies and equipment as required
(k) provides guidance and training e.g. carpet cleaning, general floor stripping/reconditioning,and snow removal;
(l) performs duties of Service Worker - Caretaking
(m) other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements for Selection


Education: Completion of tenth grade or equivalent.


Experience: At least one year of related experience.


Other:Physical ability to perform duties described above, demonstrated leadership ability; ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), may be required to possess a valid Provincial Class "G" driver's license.   • This is a part-time position (40% FTE) and the hours of work for this position are: Saturday to Sunday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
