Job summary

Canadian Natural invites an experienced Lead Field Engineer to supervise and guide a high-performing technical team across the Grande Prairie region. The role focuses on facility and well optimization, ensuring safe, reliable operations while driving continuous improvement in field assets.

You will partner with Operations, Production, Maintenance, Facilities and Development, dedicating at least 20% field time to hands-on leadership and on-site problem solving.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas.
  • P.Eng with APEGA in good standing.
  • Strong leadership and coaching ability.
  • Experience with facility debottlenecking and petroleum economics.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety culture and ensure compliance with codes and regs.
  • Provide technical support on production optimization and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and EITs on site.
  • Optimize plant and field equipment to maximize revenue and minimize costs.
  • Manage facility capital projects and related budgets.
  • Develop safe, efficient well servicing programs and field operations.

Supporting the Grande Prairie Region, the Lead Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering support to field operations, with a primary focus on facility and well optimization. This role leads the development of a high-performing technical team, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations while driving continuous improvement across field assets. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Production, Maintenance, Facilities and Development teams to identify opportunities to create value and support operational excellence. This role requires minimum 20% field time throughout the Grande Prairie Region.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Support and lead a culture of Safety Excellence through leading by example and following all applicable codes and regulations
  • Work closely with the Grande Prairie Superintendents to ensure operational and project technical support needs for the region are being met, with a strong focus on coaching, training and developing operations personnel to build technical capability and improve operational performance
  • Provide technical day-to-day support on-site to field operations on production optimization, troubleshooting and regulatory requirements, while mentoring and developing junior engineers, EITs and students
  • Ensure plant and field equipment and processes are optimized to maximize revenue, equipment capacities and minimize operating costs
  • Manage smaller facility capital projects and optimization initiatives ensuring they meet expected reliability performance and regulatory requirements, while determining operating and capital cost requirements to ensure base volume maintenance, WO budget and facility reliability are maintained
  • Develop safe, effective and efficient well servicing programs to complete workover operations on identified opportunities and repairs, and fulfill all responsibilities of Front-Line Manager, Supervisor as outlined in the Safety Management System (SMS)
What You Bring to the Role:
  • 10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas industry
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA in good standing
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of delivering results
  • Experience with facility debottlenecking, petroleum economics and downhole design are required
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, fostering teamwork, alignment, and effective communication to deliver operational and project success
  • Proven analytical abilities, task management and commitment to defining and achieving goals
