Job summary

BA Blacktop Ltd. is seeking a team-focused Estimator for our North Vancouver location to develop comprehensive estimates for heavy civil projects, including design-build and traditional tender formats.

The role may lead design-build efforts and evolve into project management for complex bids. You will work with the Project Procurement team to deliver total bid prices, oversee takeoffs, ensure vendor/subcontractor pricing accuracy, and mentor junior staff while maintaining safety and quality

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of earthwork, structures, paving, underground, and grading on large heavy civil projects.
• Excellent technical, communication, organizational, managerial, and planning skills.
• Strong relational and leadership abilities; able to identify problems and provide solutions.
• Requires very limited supervision and direction beyond desired outcomes.
• Willingness to learn new software including HCSS Heavy Bid, B2W Estimating, NavisWorks, Buzzsaw, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Reviews contractual documents and modifications to determine scope of work.
• Reviews specs and drawings; attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope and contents of estimates.
• Prepare accurate takeoff quantities using Autodesk QTO.
• Prepare estimates using B2W estimating system for material, labor, and equipment costs.
• Prepare, issue, receive and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
• Evaluate design options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Assist proposal manager in preparing bid package documents.
• Negotiate and manage bid award process and contracts.
• Assist in developing and maintaining estimating databases and guidelines.
• Supervise and coach junior team members.
