Job summary

GE Vernova's GridBeats R&D team seeks a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to collaborate with hardware, systems, software, and program management to deliver cutting-edge measurement and networking products for a global market.

You will own platform software design and testing, drive reusable architectures, and influence product strategy with a focus on safety, reliability, and scalable digital transformation in power grid networks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux and RTOS.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum development and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound scientific / engineering principles and practices.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and applying expertise to execute technology strategies.
  • Establishes system requirements, defines components and subsystems, and collaborates with Product Owners on backlog.
  • Uses judgment to propose solutions outside preset parameters with guidance and solves straightforward tasks.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments, focusing on safety and reliability.
  • Drives platform reuse strategies and processes.
  • Trade studies related to technologies such as operating systems, software architectures, frameworks, and tools.

Join the innovative GridBeats R&D team! We are creating the building blocks to enable digital transformation in the power grid, focused on signal digitization and networking infrastructure devices! In the role of Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will work with a cross-functional team including hardware design, systems engineering, software development, application engineering, program and project management to deliver best in class products for the global market. This position will be responsible for platform software design and test for Measurement and Networking products.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound scientific / engineering principles and practices.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute technology strategies.
  • Establishes system requirements, defines components and sub systems making up the overall architecture. Provides forward looking strategy for platforms and technology development / insertion to make product competitive. Defines architecture enablers and collaborate with Product Owners on backlog definition.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments, maintaining a focus on safety and reliability.
  • Drives platform reuse strategies and processes.
  • Trade studies related to technologies such as operating systems, software architectures, frameworks, and tools.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux and RTOS
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience working on teams that use Agile Scrum development methodology.
  • Experience implementing and using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with micro services software architecture.
  • Experience with test-driven design, unit testing.
  • Experience with Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
  • Knowledge on IEC61850, IEEE1588 and/or networking protocols (HSR, PRP, RSTP, VLANs...)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
