Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead MV collector design for wind farms. You will define electrical architecture, oversee SLDs, cable calculations, loss studies, and coordinate with multiple engineering teams to ensure seamless integration with substations and grid interconnection.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, OIQ licensure, and 10+ years in MV systems design, with strong leadership, communication, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in medium‑voltage electrical systems design.
• Significant experience in wind energy collector systems design for onshore projects.
• Strong knowledge of CSA, IEC, IEEE standards and local utility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of MV collector systems for onshore wind projects.
• Define electrical architecture, protection schemes, grounding and voltage levels.
• Develop and review single-line diagrams, routing plans, cable calculations and loss studies.
• Select MV equipment (cables, switchgear, transformers, protection devices).
• Ensure integration with substations and grid interconnection points.
• Collaborate with civil, environmental, substation and interconnection teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Support construction, testing and commissioning activities.
