Job summary

Modern Technical Staffing Inc. is seeking a senior Electrical Engineer to lead the research, design, and development of electrical systems for a next‑generation critical infrastructure product.

The role spans the full power chain—from ATS to power electronics—and requires production‑readiness from prototype through pre‑production. You will collaborate with mechanical, hydraulic, controls, and software teams, ensuring NEC/CEC, UL/CSA/IEC compliance, and robust safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng required.
• 10+ years designing industrial or mission‑critical electrical systems.
• Hands-on with global regulatory compliance (UL/CSA/IEC, NEC/CEC, EMC).

Responsibilities

• Design the full electrical architecture, including dual‑feed 3‑phase power, ATS, disconnects, and motor breakers.
• Integrate and validate VFDs, motor controllers, soft starters, and power electronics for production and serviceability.
• Develop redundant control power, precision metering, and industrial electrical panels with serviceable layouts.
• Own electrical safety, grounding/bonding, protective‑device coordination, and compliance with NEC/CEC, UL/CSA/IEC, EMC, and global certification requirements.
• Support DFMEA, risk assessments, structured design reviews, and formal BOM/drawing release.
• Mature designs through prototype phases and collaborate across mechanical, hydraulic, controls, and software teams.

Job description

You will lead the research, design, and development of the electrical systems for a next‑generation critical‑infrastructure product. The role covers the full power chain — automatic transfer switches, VFDs, motor systems, power electronics, redundant supplies, disconnects, and overall electrical safety. Designs must be standardized, repeatable, and production‑ready, progressing from prototype through pre‑production into full manufacturing.

Key Accountabilities:

• Design the full electrical architecture, including dual‑feed 3‑phase power, ATS, disconnects, branch‑circuit protection, and motor breakers.
• Integrate and validate VFDs, motor controllers, soft starters, and power electronics for production and serviceability.
• Develop redundant control power, precision metering, and industrial electrical panels with service‑accessible layouts.
• Own electrical safety, grounding/bonding, protective‑device coordination, and compliance with NEC/CEC, UL/CSA/IEC, EMC, and global certification requirements.
• Support DFMEA, risk assessments, structured design reviews, and formal BOM/drawing release.
• Mature designs through prototype phases and collaborate across mechanical, hydraulic, controls, and software teams.

Must‑Have Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng required
• 10+ years designing industrial or mission‑critical electrical systems
• Strong VFD expertise: drive setup, harmonics mitigation, motor starting/protection
• Power electronics knowledge: UPS/ redundant control power, DC supplies, precision metering
• Deep motor systems knowledge: AC induction & PM motors, soft starters, protection
• Industrial panel design experience, including load analysis, breakers, disconnects, and branch‑circuit protection
• Hands‑on experience with global regulatory compliance (UL/CSA/IEC, NEC/CEC, EMC, safety standards)
• Experience with BOM/drawing release, configuration control, and structured product development
• Experience supporting DFMEA and technical design reviews
• Experience working in an R&D environment and maturing prototypes into production designs
• Knowledge of HVAC electrical characteristics (chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, heat pumps)
• Familiarity with IEC 61439, UL 508A, NFPA 70E, IEEE 519, and related standards
