Job description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in Alberta. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the retrofits of heavy industrial sites, municipal infrastructure, and facilities. Proficiency in E-Tap or equivalent software is required, along with a strong background in heavy industry, medium voltage switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and controls. Experience with utilities and backup power generation is considered an asset. For the right candidate, this position will develop into a senior leadership role within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Utilize your extensive technical knowledge to provide innovative solutions for new installations and retrofits of heavy industrial sites and municipal infrastructure.
  • Employ E-Tap or equivalent software for electrical system analysis, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, reports, power distribution design, and optimization.
  • Demonstrate expertise in medium voltage switchgear, transformers, and circuit breakers, ensuring reliable power distribution.
  • Manage and implement protection relay systems and controls to safeguard electrical systems.
  • Manage and implement instrumentation and communication systems to monitor and operate instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Utilize your experience with utilities and backup power generation to enhance project capabilities.
  • Collaborate with junior engineers and team members, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and civil disciplines to provide complete design packages for implementation.
  • Embrace a dynamic work environment, being adaptable and flexible to meet project requirements.

Qualifications:

  • APEGA registration as an Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in Alberta.
  • Proficiency in E-Tap or equivalent electrical design software.
  • Strong background in heavy industry and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in medium voltage switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and controls.
  • Experience with Instrumentation specification, installation is an asset.
  • Experience with PLC Specification, installation, and programming is an asset.
  • Experience with utilities and backup power generation is an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, mentorship, and teamwork skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in challenging projects.
