Your role within the team:

  • Perform as a field engineer, supporting site construction activities, including interpreting engineering requirements, performing field changes, reviewing construction work packages (CWP), conducting field inspections, and accepting vendor design packages.
  • Support the execution of approved engineering design packages. Follow applicable design change or field change processes when the approved design is unsuitable for field conditions or impractical for site implementation.
  • Review the engineering design packages and ensure that the construction scope, planning, technical and material requirements are aligned with the design requirements and intent.
  • Identify discrepancies, non-conformance, and technical issues during construction or installation. Collaborate with the construction team to propose timely solutions and corrections.
  • Interface and coordinate with the engineering home office to propose and implement major design changes if required.
  • Perform fundamental structural analysis using qualified software and conduct structural design/calculations for steel and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Propose technical recommendations and optimizations to improve construction and implementation.
  • Prepare technical documents and compile engineering packages for field use as needed.
  • Interface and collaborate with clients, construction teams, and vendors as required.
  • Attend site visits and daily meetings as necessary.
  • Review vendor designs and approve shop drawings.
  • Ensure timely project delivery in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, procedures, and established project quality plans and performance criteria.
  • Deliver all engineering tasks to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
  • Support the technical manager with timely updates on engineering progress, performance, and staffing needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of design drawings, sketches, calculations, technical specifications, and other engineering documents under assigned scopes.
  • Provide technical instructions or supervision to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation if needed.
  • Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and design documentation. Ensure work meets quality requirements in accordance with applicable QA programs.
  • Prepare Engineering estimate and technical to support temporary field scopes and construction activities as requested.

The ideal candidate:

  • Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University. A Master's degree or higher is an asset.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, member in good standing.
  • Minimum of 10 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures including deep foundation.
  • Experience working as a Resident Engineer at construction sites in heavy industries or nuclear power plants.
  • Preferably 3 to 5 years of design experience in Nuclear Power Plants.
  • Understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience.
  • Working knowledge of Civil/Structural codes and standards.
  • Efficient use of Analysis software commonly used in civil/structural engineering such as StaadPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures, nuclear codes and regulations is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering design change and field change process of Nuclear Power Plant is an asset.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to manage to work effectively under tight schedules and budget.
  • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
  • Travel to the construction site is required.
  • Project Site Engineering Experience:
    • Experience supporting various type of projects including engineering services, refurbishments, and/or new build construction projects.
    • Experience leading teams is required.
    • Experience on a new build project is an asset (e.g. nuclear, combined cycle).
    • Experience managing and/or performing multidisciplinary work with significant interfacing requirements with interfacing disciplines such as licensing, safety analysis, Civil, process control, and mechanical engineering.
