Job summary

RBC in Bedford, Canada, seeks a Lead Engineer, Climate Solutions to drive data processing and analytics platforms. You will architect scalable pipelines, mentor engineers, and collaborate with data scientists and domain experts to deliver robust solutions.

Focus on data quality, ML model integration, and performance across on‑prem and cloud environments. Ideal candidate has 8+ years in programming, leadership experience, and expertise in Hadoop, Spark, Python, Scala, and Hive, with DevOps CI/CD

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in programming and delivering large-scale applications; 2+ years in lead capacity with end-to-end ownership.
  • This is a lead role with strong team leadership and excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Expert in Hadoop, Apache Spark, Python, Scala, Hive; exposure to DevOps for CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; experience with databases, queries, and performance tuning.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology solutions; self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for analytical and operational needs.
  • Contribute to data pipeline architecture to support micro-services deployable on prem and in the cloud.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and domain experts to capture data requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability across the data lifecycle.
  • Support integration of analytics and ML models into production with focus on data availability and performance.
  • Optimize database performance and schema design for large-scale datasets.

Our team is focused on the design, development and deployment of capabilities that enable the end-to-end delivery of the Enterprise ESG framework. Lead Engineer, Climate Solutions is responsible for leading development of applications for large-scale data processing and analysis. You will work with all stakeholders to design best in class technology solutions. What will you do?
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support various analytical and operational needs.
  • Contribute to data pipeline architecture so it follows a micro-service format and the components are deployable to on-premise and Cloud
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders including data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts to understand data requirements and deliver robust solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Support the integration of analytics and machine learning models into production systems, focusing on data availability and performance.
  • Optimize database performance and schema design for large-scale data sets.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience combined in programming, small to large-scale applications; 2+ year in team lead or similar capacity with full end-to-end ownership in delivering a project.
  • This is a lead role - Demonstrated strong team leadership and ability in written and oral communication skills, along with strong presentation skills. Ability to determine the information and communication needs of the stakeholders and project.
  • Expert in multiple programming languages / frameworks such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, Python, Scala, Hive. Exposure to DevOps practices and tools for CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Experience with database engines, programming experience in writing queries and performance tuning.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology implementation. Must be self-motivated and be able to work with minimum supervision.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security practices.
  • Frontend and backend engineering, test driven development, microservices and architecture design principles.
  • Prior experience in the Financial Industry, especially supporting top-of-the-house risk analytic functions (such as Market Risk, Credit Risk or Liquidity Risk), in the design and development of the regulatory frameworks. AI experience also preferred.
