Status : Contract or Permanent

Overview

The Lead Consultant serves as the strategic advisor and relationship owner for Lakeland College’s benefits program. This role requires deep expertise in employee benefits, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to guide clients through plan design, carrier negotiations, and long-term benefit strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for Lakeland College’s HR team, executives, and insurance carriers
  • Lead the design, benchmarking, and customization of employee benefit plans
  • Facilitate benefits tendering processes and carrier negotiations
  • Analyze and interpret complex plan data to provide actionable recommendations
  • Represent Lakeland College during collective bargaining or union consultations regarding benefit-related issues
  • Lead benefit review presentations, renewal discussions, and high-level problem-solving sessions
  • Manage internal team alignment and client expectations throughout the contract term

Tool-Assisted Functions

  • Use CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Zoho) to track communications and follow-ups
  • Review Power BI dashboards created by data specialists for high-level trend insights
  • Access automated compliance alerts to stay updated on benefit regulations

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in benefits consulting or insurance advisory roles
  • Proven experience with post-secondary, public sector, or unionized clients
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta and Canadian group insurance regulations
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and client-facing skills
