Responsibilities

As the Lead Chassis and Container Repair Mechanic, you will be responsible for managing and developing the Chassis shop team while overseeing the assessment, repair, and maintenance of our fleet of Container Chassis and Port Containers at the Depot Yard. You will lead the entire mechanical operation, ensuring safety, productivity, and efficient shop operations. Additionally, you will handle all administrative tasks related to Depot management and provide training and orientation to all employees to ensure they have the necessary skills to perform their duties effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Chassis shop team, ensuring all repairs and maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Oversee the repair and maintenance of the Depot’s fleet of Container Chassis and Port Containers.
  • Ensure compliance with railroad, IEP, manufacturer, and FMCSA guidelines in all repairs and maintenance work.
  • Conduct routine and scheduled maintenance on railroad-leased/owned containers and chassis.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment including tires, brakes, lights, landing legs, and framework.
  • Perform light welding when necessary to complete repairs.
  • Provide leadership in training, orientation, and development of employees, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
  • Handle all administrative tasks related to Depot management, including repair documentation and reporting.
  • Communicate repair status, timelines, and issues clearly and effectively to management and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable mechanic experience in ANY industry.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable experience working on 50 lbs commercial tires.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable experience working with automotive electrical wiring.
  • Ability to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to train current staff.
  • Ability to work closely with management.
  • Open availability required (nights, weekends, & holidays).
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Must have a basic set of hand tools.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screening.
