Lead Carpenter

Valdek Construction

Winnipeg, MB | Full-time | On-site | $34-$38 per hour

Valdek Construction is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our team in Winnipeg. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows residential construction, takes pride in doing things correctly, and can be trusted to take ownership of a job from start to finish.

We work on residential renovations, home additions, basements, kitchens, and bathrooms throughout Winnipeg and surrounding areas. Our work is centered on quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and delivering what we promise to homeowners.

What You’ll Do

As Lead Carpenter, you will help lead day-to-day construction activities on residential renovation and construction projects. You will be expected to work independently, coordinate the work on site, and make sure projects are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and perform hands-on carpentry and residential construction work
  • Read and understand plans, measurements, layouts, and project requirements
  • Coordinate daily work on site and help keep projects moving according to schedule
  • Verify measurements, layouts, levels, square, and other critical details before work progresses
  • Identify potential construction issues early and solve problems before they become larger problems
  • Make sure materials, tools, and equipment needed for the job are properly planned and ready
  • Review your work and the work being completed on site for quality and accuracy
  • Communicate clearly with the project team regarding progress, issues, and materials needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site
  • Work professionally in occupied homes and treat clients' property with care and respect
  • Follow through on commitments and take ownership when something needs to be corrected
  • Help guide other team members and set a strong example for workmanship, reliability, and professionalism
What We’re Looking For

The right person is more than someone who can swing a hammer. We are looking for a skilled, dependable problem-solver who can think ahead and get the job done right the first time.

You should have:

  • 5+ years of carpentry experience with a wide range of residential renovation work; finish carpentry is a strong asset
  • Red Seal certification or equivalent experience strongly preferred (top of the wage range reflects certification and proven leadership)
  • Previous experience working in a lead carpenter or similar senior construction role
  • Strong knowledge of residential renovation and construction practices
  • The ability to accurately measure, lay out, and verify work
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • The ability to identify problems and determine practical solutions
  • Strong organizational and logistical skills
  • The ability to prepare for a job and make sure the necessary materials, tools, and equipment are accounted for
  • The ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • A strong sense of accountability and ownership
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to safety and following proper procedures
  • Class 5 driver's licence and a reliable vehicle capable of transporting tools and occasional materials (until the company vehicle is in place)
