Job summary

RailWorks is seeking a Bridges & Structures Engineer to lead projects across bridges, buildings, culverts and retaining walls. You will plan, budget, and report on progress while ensuring safety, quality and schedule compliance across multiple sites in Ontario and beyond.

The role requires a Professional Engineer in Ontario, 10 years in railway operations, and strong knowledge of AREMA and industry standards. A hybrid work arrangement and a competitive compensation package are offered.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an Accredited Canadian University
• Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian Province
• 10 years experience in Railway Operations
• Thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, processes and standards
• Experience with project accounting, controls (cost, schedule, change management), material management, contract management, safety and quality
• Must pass Safety Aptitude tests; complete essential safety qualifications (First Aid, Emergency Response, Hot Work, Work at Heights, etc.)
• AREMA Certifications and related competencies; training will be provided if not already held

Responsibilities

• Determine the forces and stresses in railway bridges/culverts and bridge components
• Prescribe safe loading conditions for railway bridges/culverts
• Prescribe inspection and maintenance procedures for railway bridges/culverts
• Design repairs and modifications to railway bridges/culverts
• Authorize or restrict the operation of railway traffic over a bridge according to its condition
• Supervise construction, modification or repair of railway structures in line with plans and specs
• Develop execution plans including staffing, materials, equipment, subcontracting
• Monitor project costs, budgets and progress; communicate with management and clients
