Library Technician - 1.50 hours per day (schedule may vary)

Start Date: September 2, 2025

Starting Wages:

Library Technician - Fully Qualified: $25.10 per hour

Library Support Worker - Partially Qualified: $16.88 per hour

Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) Local 73 Bargaining Unit.

Library Technicians perform a variety of tasks to support the school library. Responsibilities include:

  • Acquisition, circulation, and maintenance of resources
  • Facilitation of access to resources
  • Provision of reference services
  • Promotion of the library

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Library Technician diploma or equivalent education and training
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with students
  • Knowledge of current trends in libraries, media resources, and information technology
  • Bona fide occupational requirements, including physical ability

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Creating a welcoming environment that encourages use of the library and its resources
  • Maintaining the library circulation system, including sign-in/out procedures and overdue resources tracking
  • Collaborating with teachers on instructional units and library scheduling in consultation with the principal
  • Providing basic reference services to staff and students
  • Performing inventory and maintaining the collection in good repair
  • Cataloguing and processing resources (e.g., labels, stamps, security strips)
  • Staying informed about age-appropriate literature and recording acquisitions
  • Performing other site-specific duties within the scope of the position
