Job description

We are looking for a Staff Lawyer (hybrid, full-time, one permanent position) with a minimum of five (5) years of criminal law experience to join our team at the Saskatoon City Area Office.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Legal Director, key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting assigned files to professional standards, in accordance with Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan policies.
  • Handling preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews, and appeals.
  • Negotiating resolutions to achieve fair, early, and lasting outcomes for clients.
  • Representing clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas, and remands, both in-person and remotely.
  • Working independently on cases as assigned.
  • Completing accurate time entries and record keeping.
Position Requirements
  • Experience in criminal law and family law.
  • Law degree from a recognized law school.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Valid Driver’s License – Class 5.
  • Technologically proficient, with enthusiasm for learning new systems, including MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other online resources.
  • Commitment to social justice and understanding of the needs faced by low-income and marginalized communities.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.
