Under the guidance of the Assistant General Counsel and Head of Legal Services, the successful candidate will provide legal advice and support in areas such as aboriginal, indigenous, and constitutional law. Responsibilities include reviewing contracts, advocating in negotiations and tribunals, conducting legal research, and preparing legal opinions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal advice on aboriginal and indigenous matters.
  2. Draft and review contracts, pleadings, briefs, and settlement documents.
  3. Represent Manitoba Hydro in negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations.
  4. Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the company.

Qualifications:

  1. Law degree (LL.B or J.D.) from a recognized university with at least five years of legal practice in a common law jurisdiction.
  2. Membership or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of Manitoba.
  3. Experience in aboriginal and indigenous law, including engagement with Indigenous Peoples.
  4. Experience in legal strategy, advice, and senior management recommendations.
  5. Strong problem-solving, planning, and multitasking skills.
  6. Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and policies.
  7. Excellent research, analysis, and writing skills.
  8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Experience in negotiations and mediations; advocacy before courts and tribunals is a plus.
  10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  11. Legal entitlement to work in Canada and ability to pass personnel screening.

Salary Range:

The starting salary depends on qualifications and experience. The Lawyer IV classification ranges from $78.96 to $99.43 hourly ($151,305 to $190,530 annually). The Lawyer III classification ranges from $67.75 to $84.04 hourly ($129,819 to $161,045 annually).
