The Okanagan Thompson Legal Clinic is needing to expand their services. To meet the needs of the growing community we are recruiting for a full-time Clinic Staff Lawyer to join our team of professionals in our Kelowna office.

The Okanagan Thompson Legal Clinic is committed to providing access to justice to the Okanagan Thompson area by providing free quality legal services and education to the community with a trauma informed approach. The organization is committed to a client-centered approach for removing barriers to justice for gender diverse individuals, Indigenous communities and other marginalized communities.

The Okanagan Thompson Legal Clinic offers competitive salaries; excellent benefit packages including a pension; and opportunities for professional development and career growth. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinic Staff Lawyer will be joining a team responsible for providing free legal services in the Okanagan Thompson area from the Kelowna office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinic Staff Lawyer will provide free legal services and advice and will represent clients in the Kelowna region. The Managing Staff Clinic Lawyer will conduct client intake and interviews, attend court, research, establish and conduct public legal education sessions including by webinar.

The Kelowna Clinic Lawyer will also be responsible for managing the Kelowna Office and will supervise a team of four. The Lawyer will primarily work in the following areas of law : human rights, employment, judicial reviews, small claims, debt claims and other areas of law as needed.

Applicants for this role must be a member or be eligible to be a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and must possess a LL.B, JD or NCA. A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role with demonstrated supervisory experience and knowledge of Human Rights law, employment law and judicial reviews. Immigration law experience would be an asset. Experience working with marginalized communities and Clio would be beneficial. A full privilege Driver’s License for the Province of BC is required.

Compensation - $90,000 to $105, 000 annual (Pension and Health Benefits)

The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a Police Information Check (PIC) as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however, a PIC will be required upon consideration for employment).

This position is based on 35 hours per week and will primarily be Monday to Friday. On occasion, evening and / or weekend may be required.
