Job description

Calling all Real Estate Law Clerks/Claims Handlers within the Oakville region.

We are seeking a Law Clerk/Claims Handler with experience investigating and managing title claims related to title defects, survey issues, and building and zoning matters. This role involves communicating with customers (property owners, lawyers, and lenders), determining claim resolution options, identifying applicable exceptions and exclusions to coverage related to the title insurance policies, and instructing third-party experts.

Responsibilities
  • Review and authenticate new title claims across Canada for accuracy
  • Initiate contact with claimants within required timelines
  • Determine and communicate next steps using Provincial/Territorial knowledge
  • Retain and instruct external contacts (adjusters, lawyers, surveyors, appraisers, contractors)
  • Correspond with customers regarding decisions, timelines, and policy options
  • Analyze third-party reports for accuracy and coverage determination
  • Communicate denied claims with internal and external parties
  • Negotiate settlements and conduct reviews for potential recovery
  • Manage escalations and disputes professionally
  • Identify potential business concerns and escalate as needed
  • Determine, set, and maintain settlement and expense reserves
  • Post financial transactions as required
Qualifications
  • Law Clerk designation from an Ontario post-secondary institution
  • 5-10 years of experience as a real estate law clerk in a firm and/or title insurance environment
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Land Titles System and terminology
  • Ability to read and understand Ontario title searches and identify defects
  • Familiarity with building and zoning regulations and land use laws
  • Strong negotiation skills and confidence in decision-making
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, customer-oriented
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks
