Law Clerk – Civil Litigation and Family Law

Job description

Our client is a highly respected Canadian downtown Toronto boutique law firm. They are currently seeking a Law Clerk with 3+ years experience in Civil Litigation and Family Law.

Your new role

In this new role you will be responsible for:

  1. Drafting documents, including pleadings, orders, briefs, confirmations, and other court documents.
  2. Preparing files/documents for meetings, service, and filing with the court.
  3. Intake including communicating with potential new firm clients and firm lawyers.
  4. Maintaining contact and positive rapport with clients.
  5. Scheduling meetings, conference calls, and working with lawyers in management of calendars and deadlines.
  6. Mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.
  7. Keeping informed on court notices, new policies, rules, and legislation, and providing updated communications to lawyers.
  8. Preparing books of authority, affidavits, financial statements, NFP statements, and DivorceMate calculations.

You possess excellent organizational skills, with high attention to detail, and must have the ability to multitask, all of which will assist you in working in this high volume, fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also a must for dealing effectively with clients, lawyers, and professionals in the interests of our clients. You possess solid knowledge of the Family Law Rules and the Rules of Civil Procedure, including filing deadlines. Experience with MS Office is a must and knowledge in the applications of PC Law and DivorceMate are also required.
