Job description

What is the opportunity? The RBC Law Group, Canadian Retail & Commercial Lending, Private Banking Team, is looking for a dynamic Law Clerk to:

  • Assist in reviewing questions related to loan and secured lending matters, including priority agreements with other creditors and payout letters, following standardized processes;
  • Proactively refer business partners to Law Branch Escalations ("LBE") tools and templates for issues already addressed by existing resources;
  • Gather missing factual information and documents necessary for assessing loan or secured lending inquiries and allocate matters efficiently to the responsible lawyer;
  • Identify recurring trends and develop self-help tools and templates to enable business partners to resolve routine legal matters independently;
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss inquiries and identify opportunities to streamline legal advice.

Additionally, the role involves:

  • Acting as a law branch escalations coordinator to review and evaluate incoming inquiries and allocate them to appropriate team members;
  • Streamlining workflow within Law Group, focusing on operational effectiveness, innovation, and professionalism;
  • Ensuring early identification, proper classification, and efficient assignment of legal matters.

  • Responding to straightforward legal lending matters escalated to LBE, directing clients to existing resources to resolve routine issues;
  • Gathering missing documents to improve response efficiency;
  • Developing additional self-help tools for recurring issues;
  • Prioritizing tasks based on urgency, risk, and impact;
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of LBE and acting as the primary liaison;
  • Participating in team meetings and managing administrative processes, including reporting;
  • Accepting service of process in litigation matters;
  • Providing general administrative support to the team.

What do you need to succeed? Must-have

  • Three to five years of applicable experience with a Law Firm or Financial Institution;
  • Bilingual in English and French, with ability to serve clients and partners across Canada;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel);
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently under pressure;
  • Strong service orientation and a desire to excel.

Nice-to-have

  • Working knowledge of written French;
  • Experience with T360 and iManage software;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective time management and independence;
  • Attention to detail and proactive problem-solving approach.
