Job description

Are you an expert in handling complex property claims with a strong focus on oversight, quality, and customer service? We’re working with a leading insurer to help grow their National Property Technical Team with the addition of a Large Loss Claims Examiner.

In this role, you will oversee the management of complex property claims ranging from $250,000 to multi-million dollars. You won’t be on-site investigating losses directly — instead, you’ll provide strategic direction and oversight to third-party independent adjusters (IAs), ensuring that all claims are handled efficiently, accurately, and in line with best practices.

You’ll play a critical role in developing file strategies, conducting coverage analyses, reviewing investigation results, and driving resolution strategies. Working collaboratively with vendors, specialists, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders, your focus will be on delivering outstanding customer service, reducing indemnity costs, and maintaining the highest standard of claims handling.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Direct and oversee claims investigations performed by third-party adjusters (IAs), setting clear expectations, timelines, and ensuring quality execution.
  2. Review IA reports, expert opinions, technical documentation, and estimates to compile complete claim files and determine settlement values.
  3. Lead the development and presentation of file strategies, including coverage opinions, settlement recommendations, and business cases.
  4. Arrange and participate in market calls, particularly for subscription policies involving multiple insurers.
  5. Collaborate with vendors, legal counsel, and internal teams on litigation files and complex loss scenarios.
  6. Draft and issue key correspondence, including reservation of rights letters, proofs of loss, and critical path documents.
  7. Identify opportunities for subrogation, risk improvements, and recognition of questionable claims.
  8. Ensure the accuracy of data entry, payment processing, and reporting within internal claims systems.
  9. Maintain alignment with company claims handling procedures, service standards, and customer expectations.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 5 years of experience handling commercial and residential property claims.
  • Strong understanding of property insurance industry practices, policy wordings, and case law.
  • Excellent construction knowledge and ability to interpret technical building estimates.
  • Solid digital literacy and comfort working with claims management platforms and reporting tools.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and report writing skills.
  • Basic accounting knowledge considered an asset.

Compensation : Competitive salary, bonus, benefits, pension plan, stock purchase plan, volunteer days.
