Job description

Individually we are people, but together we are Aviva. Individually these are just words, but together they are our Values – Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence.

We are currently looking to hire a Large Loss Appraisal Specialist to join our Property Loss Assessment Unit.

In this role, you will oversee the assignment of all Large Loss Property referrals managed by both internal and third-party appraisers. You will also conduct monthly audits of internal and external appraisal files to ensure quality and compliance. Unlike on-site Large Loss Appraisers who gather information firsthand, the LL Assessment Specialist provides strategic direction and oversight to third-party appraisers. You will guide the execution of required steps and ensure exceptional customer service is delivered throughout the appraisal process.

Your responsibilities include managing external appraisers during the investigation, assessment, and quantification of property damage. You will collaborate with internal specialists and preferred vendors to maintain high standards of quality and service.

This work must be completed efficiently to control indemnity and expense costs—without compromising Customer Experience. You will ensure all activities align with Aviva’s best practices and handling procedures.

Given the nature of this role, and oversight requirements across the country, this is a remote-based Hybrid position.

Come join our team!

  • Triage and assign all Large Loss Referral submissions to ensure timely and appropriate handling.

  • Serve as a technical specialist on niche products, systems, processes, and policies—assessing damages and supporting accurate property quantification.

  • Conduct monthly Large Loss Appraisal File Reviews using the InPoint internal audit program, evaluating technical elements such as preliminary reports, reserve calculations, valuation reports, scopes of work, quantification methodologies, workplans, and timelines.

  • Oversee and provide direction to External Property Appraisers, ensuring compliance with Aviva’s Appraisal Service Levels for losses exceeding $250,000.

  • Provide support to Claims Professionals, Vendor Management, and External Appraisers to facilitate effective communication and flow of information.

  • Track, review, and validate documentation submitted by External Appraisers to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Review and validate invoices from External Appraisers to confirm alignment with completed work and contractual expectations.

  • Ensure timely and effective correspondence, including the review of submitted documents and related system notes.

  • Deliver exceptional service to customers by maintaining a high standard of professionalism and responsiveness.

  • Attend loss sites in person when necessary to support accurate assessment and resolution.
