Job description
Overview

Under general direction, schedules the maintenance of landscape and snow removal operations, including maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for landscape equipment and vehicles; leads, directs, trains and works with a group of grounds staff.

Responsibilities
  • Installs and maintains hard and soft landscape, including cultivated and natural environments; monitors and maintains an integrated pest management program and quality assurance program.
  • Ensures maintenance of landscape irrigation and other landscape related systems.
  • Plans, schedules, monitors and performs the maintenance and repairs of landscape, landscape equipment and vehicles.
  • Leads, directs and trains a group of grounds staff in the maintenance of the landscape, vehicles and equipment and the clearing of ice and snow.
  • Organizes daily schedule for self and grounds staff and informs supervisor of staff hours and absences.
  • May perform duties of Landscape Technician I and II.
  • Plans and oversees the planting and maintenance of flowers, shrubs and seeding of grass.
  • Drives and operates a variety of landscape and snow removal vehicles.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Education: A graduate of a recognized Community College Horticultural program or equivalent, including the completion of the Universitys horticulture apprentice program or the equivalent in an educational requirement from a recognized certificate program, such as the Canadian Nurseries Trades Association program.
  • Experience: Seven years of general landscape and vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Other: Possession of a valid Provincial Class G driver's license; may be required to possess Provincial Class D or DZ driver's license; possession of a current pesticide spraying license; mechanical ability; chainsaw operator's certificate; well versed in plant health care programs and natural pesticide programs; physical ability to perform required duties; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; ability to lead, direct and train others; ability to work under all weather conditions and may be required to work long and varied hours.
Shift details
  • May-October: Tuesday - Friday, 10:30AM – 7:00PM; Saturday: 8:00AM – 4:30PM
  • November-April: Tuesday - Friday, 12:00PM – 8:30PM; Saturday: 8:00AM – 4:30PM
  • Note: Must be available to be On Call during the winter months for snow removal operations in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
