Role description:

Our Toronto Studio is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Landscape Architectural Designer to join our team. As a part of our team, you will have a strong focus on infrastructure-led projects in tandem with projects that have an environmental restoration and active transportation component. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including our in-house disciplines and high-profile designers as well as our sector-leading external partners. You’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the GTA’s largest and most complex transit-oriented projects. These currently include Hurontario LRT, Yonge North Subway Extension, and Ontario Line.

However, not all of our projects are large scale. We have projects that are rich and varied, providing support to our in-house disciplines to create sustainable and environmentally responsible design solutions that include naturalization and active transportation.

Role accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with Senior Landscape Architects, Arborists, Planners, and Urban Designers to create innovative, context-sensitive urban environments for active transportation and transit corridors.
  • Generate and develop conceptual designs.
  • Produce construction documentation and details using AutoCAD (Civil3D and/or Revit are considerable assets).
  • Work internally and externally with multidisciplinary teams, including Architects and Engineers.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet standards and contract requirements.
  • Support contract administration and conduct site visits as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited institution within the field of Landscape Architecture or similar.
  • A minimum of 3 years (post-graduation) of relevant working experience in a professional design firm.
  • Proficiency in technical detailing, drafting, and landscape construction practices, along with knowledge of local construction and plant materials and experience with municipal and agency approvals and regulations.
  • Previous experience working within large multi-disciplinary teams as part of a project delivery system that includes project agreements, project specific output specifications and schedules for infrastructure led projects such as rail or roadway is considered an asset.
  • Experience in preparing construction documentation such as specifications and schedules of quantities would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in the latest version of AutoCAD (Civil3D) is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and Revit is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), SketchUp, Revit, and Rhino is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is mandatory.
  • Capacity to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment with a keen eye for detail.
  • Capacity to uphold design excellence in challenging project time frames and deadlines.
  • Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license is considered an asset.
