Department: Environment and Climate Change
The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.
The Lands Officer provides specialized support in complex land negotiations by offering strategic advice to their supervisor and by liaising with community councils, Senior Administrative Officers, and Community Land Officers. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing annual work plans and associated quarterly objectives. Working directly with six communities, the Lands Officer indirectly influences the budgetary decisions of community governments within the region, particularly those related to land use and infrastructure development.
