Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Support the deployment, testing, and site acceptance plans with multiple suppliers of LS satellite-related equipment across geographically dispersed sites
- Define LS troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and operational procedures
- Support development of training plans and materials for LS testing, maintenance, and operations
- Provide training for local LS Site resources
- Achieve successful handover of LS Sites from engineering to Telesat Operations.
- Work with engineering to implement design modifications/changes as required
- Support execution of LS systems and software validation tests
- Maintain comprehensive data packages including as-built drawings, acceptance reports, and O&M documentation
- Manage records for accepted assets at each LS in accordance with financial procedures.
- Assist in the creation and review of LS Site test and configuration procedures
- Support Telesat operations during system deployment and verification
- Perform other duties as required
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science with a Minimum of 7 years’ experience in satellite ground system operations or an Electronics Engineering Technologist Diploma with 10 years of experience in satellite ground system operation
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with earth station monitoring and control systems
- Understanding of facilities systems: HVAC, UPS, generators, grounding, lightning protection, pest control, and security systems
- Ability to define and create operations and maintenance plans
- Ability to develop and deliver training materials
- Strong analytical skills to summarize complex problems and recommend solutions
- Expertise using RF and Network Test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, signal generator, etc.
- Ability to obtain heavy equipment training certifications for forklift and telehandler operation
- Strong organizational skills
- Independent and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment
- Fluent in English (written and oral)
Decision Making & Supervision
- Develop and recommend technical and operational solutions
- Evaluate and recommend acceptance of major assets and service contracts
- Prioritize tasks and support project teams effectively
- No direct reports, but expected to lead multidisciplinary project teams
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and specialists
- Supervise suppliers and contractors during implementation activities
Working Conditions
- Option to work in office (hybrid) at Telesat Headquarters in Ottawa or work remotely from a home office
- Travel approximately 60% of time
- Extensive travel required, including international travel
- Must be available to work across multiple time zones and outside standard working hours as needed
- Candidates must have no international travel or visa restrictions
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Possession of valid passport or the ability to get one
- The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
