Ozhaawashkwaa Animikii-Bineshi Aki Onji Kinimaagae’ Inun provides year-round, land-based education for K–12 learners in the Seven Oaks School Division. Our Centre is dedicated to deepening relationships with the Land, with one another, and with ourselves by restoring ecosystems and human cultures as interconnected processes.

Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, we foster reconciliation by weaving together Land-based education, ecological restoration, and community stewardship.

We are currently accepting applications for a Land-Based Educator and Land Stewardship Coordinator. This role involves facilitating Land-based learning experiences and co-coordinating the stewardship of compost, gardens, and natural areas at the Centre.

Responsibilities:
  • Promote cultural awareness, cultural safety, and cultural competency.
  • Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Holders, divisional leaders, educators, and learners.
  • Design and facilitate land-based learning experiences for diverse age groups.
  • Create and curate resources to support educators and learners.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of land-based programs.
  • Maintain and steward Ceremonial, indoor, and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Lead the division-wide composting program.
  • Provide horticultural support for food and medicinal gardens, the greenhouse, and restoration areas, independently, with student service-learning, and with seasonal staff.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s strategic planning, evaluation, and growth.
Qualifications:
  • Experience facilitating land-based learning experiences and cultural activities.
  • Experience with land-based practices, such as harvesting and utilizing plants and/or animals, environmental protection, food and medicine gardens, composting, etc.
  • Knowledgeable about Indigenous cultures, worldviews, and histories.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and perform frequent physical tasks.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR/AED Level A, or willingness to obtain upon employment.
  • Priority given to qualified candidates who self-identify as Indigenous.
  • Ability to speak a First Nations language is an asset.
