Vacant Positions: One

Location of Work: Blind River

Hours of Work: Two Weeks In / Two Weeks Out

Salary Range: $48,000 - $52,000

Want to join a dynamic team? Niigaaniin is looking for a Cook to support our Land-base Detox Camp!

If you are an out-of-the-box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services, mental health, and addictions, then you should apply and join our Niigaaniin Team!

Under the direction of the Aaniish Naa Manager, the Cook will attend all land-based detox and treatment camps under Niigaaniin Services, providing ongoing nutritional care to community members and employees supporting the camp.

The Cook will coordinate with the Program Manager to create and prepare nutritionally balanced meal plans and meals for community members and employees attending the land-based detox and treatment camps. Responsibilities include picking up ingredients, managing kitchen inventory, following food safety protocols, and coordinating with internal and external supports such as program managers and nutritionists.

Requirements:

  • Preferred to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.
  • Culinary Diploma.
  • One (1) year of experience in a culinary environment is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong time management, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Current Mental Health First Aid Certification.
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check.
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle for transportation to and from camp sites.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Anishnaabemowin, culture, and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty.
  • Familiarity with community services networks; knowledge of Niigaaniin Services is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and meet targets in a performance-based system.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a supportive environment.
  • Experience with various cooking tools, equipment, and methods.
  • Understanding of food allergies, allergens, and ingredients related to food-related diseases.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, and move for long hours.
  • Basic math skills for ingredient measurements.
  • Ability to follow recipes and safely use cooking tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners such as program managers and nutritionists.
