Job description

Orla Mining - Mine Planner Job Description

Orla Mining is striving to be the emerging gold producer of choice with a geographically diversified asset base, a prospective development and exploration portfolio, an experienced management team with a successful track record, and a high-quality board and shareholder base.

Orla operates the Camino Rojo Oxide Gold Mine, a gold and silver open-pit heap leach mine located in Zacatecas State, Central Mexico. This low-cost operation is 100% owned by Orla, covers over 139,000 hectares, and includes a large sulphide mineral endowment beneath the oxide resources. We are also advancing permitting and development on our South Railroad Project, a feasibility-stage open-pit heap leach project in Nevada, part of the larger South Carlin Complex. Recently, we acquired the Musselwhite Mine in Northern Ontario, which has over 25 years of operating history, allowing us to double our gold production and enter a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction. Musselwhite is highly prospective for resource expansion and increased mine life.

At Orla, we aim to build a legacy of excellence, respect, and sustainable value through responsible gold mining. We are committed to creating a net positive benefit for all stakeholders, fostering a culture of safety, care, and respect, and operating high-quality mines with an experienced team.

Purpose

We are seeking a Mine Planner to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Engineer Mine Planning, the Mine Planner will deliver high-quality mine designs and daily engineering outputs, focusing on short-term planning and execution, including development and stoping designs, drilling and blasting packages, and data-driven improvement initiatives. The role involves working closely with operations, technical services, and other departments to ensure safe and efficient production.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare development and stope drill-and-blast designs using Deswik CAD, in accordance with engineering standards and best practices.
  • Generate short-term deliverables such as daily blasting, gas clearance, and drilling packages.
  • Maintain and update 3D mine data in Deswik MDM.
  • Analyze CMS data to assess stope performance and identify opportunities to improve recovery and reduce dilution.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to present and discuss mine designs, sequencing plans, and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Ventilation and Ground Control teams to validate design assumptions and incorporate safety-critical requirements.
  • Maintain a structured drill and blast database to support month-end reporting and performance tracking.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment with the Mine Operations team for design implementation.
Skills and Experience:
  • 1-3 years of underground mining experience or previous experience operating heavy machinery.
  • Experience in mechanized mining is an asset.
  • Ability to sit or drive for up to 12 hours daily.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Experience with Haul Trucks and Scooptrams (manual and remote control).
