What will you do?
During the summer season (approximately April to October) under the District Operations or Paving Operations, you will report work as a Labourer II responsible for:
- Carry out a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks related to pothole repair, concrete repair, litter control and other related duties
- Maintain and operate basic tools and equipment such as pumps, tampers, jackhammers, small rollers and all equipment related to the task
- Ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso - Environmental Management System (ISO14001)
- Perform manual sidewalk cleaning, sweep sand from centre medians, load trucks and complete other general labourer duties as operationally required
- Other related duties as required
During the winter season (approximately October to April) under the Snow and Ice Control Program in all Edmonton Districts, you will work as a Truck Driver III and beresponsible for:
- Operate a tandem or single axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
- Load and unload materials
- Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Be aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating a plow
- Inform the lead hand of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident,s or property damage
- General labour including but not limited to: brushing, manual sidewalk cleaning, sanding, snow shoveling, pothole repairs, manually spreading sand on icy areas, andother snow and ice-related duties
- Ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso - Environmental Management System (ISO14001)
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in operating tandem or single axle sander/plow while engaged in snow and ice control, or an equivalent combination of trainingand experience
- 1 year labourer experience related to district programs, i.e. pothole repair, etc
- City of Edmonton trained and pass on plow/sander
- National Safety Code (NSC) course
- Knowledge of PARS SOPs, hazards and safety precautions
- Knowledge of the daily maintenance required on equipment and vehicles
Skills required for success:
- Ability to perform manual labouring duties
- Ability to work in the presence of asphalt, concrete, dust, and noise in inclement weather and adverse traffic conditions
- Ability to keep accurate documentation on daily activity cards
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
- Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)

Conditions of Employment:
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with Air Brake endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will movethroughout the summer season
