Qualifications

Job Description - Labourer II, Muttart Conservatory (51285)

The Muttart Conservatory preserves and grows one of Canada's largest botanical collections and shares knowledge and enthusiasm for nature year round with its visitors. They are also responsible for growing the annual flowers for the City of Edmonton. As a Labourer II, you will work under the guidance, coaching, and mentorship of a Facility Grower to:

What will you do?
  • Assist with district plant pick-ups and perform seasonal tasks, including transplanting, planting, stocking, seeding, mixing soils, and filling flats and pots with soil.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the work stations and greenhouses.
  • Operate equipment for production as required, including seeder machine, bale buster, pallet jack, and punchable transplant machine.
  • Fulfilling online plant sale orders by collaborating with the team.
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment.
  • Knowledge and practice of safe work ethic.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 10.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience and knowledge of how to maintain plant health.
Asset:
  • Some horticultural course work.
Skills required for success:
  • Knowledge of greenhouse principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and multitask activities effectively.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service to all levels of the public and the organization.
  • Strength, dexterity, lifting, and ability to stand for long periods of time.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position.
  • Hire is dependent upon a Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position; there may be a cost associated with this requirement.
Work Environment:
  • This position is subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work schedule including evenings and weekends.
