Job description

Are you passionate about the game of golf? Do you enjoy spending your summer outdoors, contributing to the beauty of our city's golf courses?

The Community and Recreation Facilities Branch is looking for individuals to fill Labourer I positions, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining the golf course grounds and associated work areas (Victoria, Riverside, and Rundle). The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn new skills and will take pride in their contributions to the high quality of the golf course grounds, while providing a welcoming experience for all members, guests, and associates.

What will you do?

  • Maintain high quality golf course conditions through industry proven best practices
  • Plant and maintain annual flowers, shrub beds, and manage vegetation
  • Operate small power equipment such as push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, and small rototillers
  • Use of tools such as shovels, rakes, stake pounders, and small hand tools
  • Operate ride-on mowers
  • Move and transport waste and materials, possibly with use of a trailer
  • Load and unload materials from trucks
  • Provide overall facility support
  • Respond to public inquiries
  • Assist co-workers and perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Completion of grade 10 or equivalent

Assets:

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Familiarity with the game of golf
  • Previous golf course maintenance experience.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates
  • Equipment certification or experience or working knowledge of various equipment, and hand tools including ride-on mowers, trimmers, skid steers, blowers and side by side

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to work independently and perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions and in a safe manner
  • Ability to understand and perform oral and written instructions
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position, including repetitive lifting

  • Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2026 season

Up to 5 temporary full-time positions for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Hours are subject to shift work, providing coverage Monday - Sunday, starting as early as 05:00 or finishing as late as 24:00

Salary Range: $22.072 - $30.606 (Hourly)
