Job description

Regular Hours of Work: Day Shift/Night Shift

Monday / Friday: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM 8 hours

Monday-Thursday: 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM 10 hours

Location: Langley

Overtime: Upon management approval and request

Functional Summary

The Saw Operator reports to the Foreman of the Shop. The Saw Operator, under the training and tutelage of their mentor, will adhere to instructions and learn about customer service, perform general labour and maintenance work and comply with workplace safety regulations and other Company policies and procedures.

Key Tasks

Working under the direction and supervision of the mentor, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

General Labour
  • Reads and interprets work orders, blueprints to ensure the correct parts are sorted appropriately
  • Follows directions given in work orders or by Supervisor
  • Operates forklift, jib/overhead crane to facilitate movement of parts/products
  • Transports raw materials and finished metal products manually, using hoists or other devices
  • Sorts metal sheets and parts, scrap metal and other materials
  • Loads and unloads metal using hand truck or dolly
  • Grinds or chips excess metal from metal products using hand tools
  • Operates Saw
Customer Service
  • Learns and provides quality customer service to co-workers
  • Responds to requests in a timely manner
  • Maintains constant communication with all departments to coordinate and schedule movement of parts
Maintenance
  • Cleans and maintains the work areas and equipment
  • Immerses metal products in cleaning solutions
Workplace Safety
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work environment at all times
  • Learns and practices safety in the workplace at all times to ensure he or she does not endanger oneself or others in the plant
  • Complies with all safety regulations, policies and procedures without any deviance, including wearing all appropriate Personal Protection Equipment at all times
  • Promotes and ensures workplace safety exists at all times
  • Ensures the health and safety of oneself and each and every worker
  • Leads by example
Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications
Experience
  • A minimum of 6 months of related experience
Education
  • Must possess at least a Grade 10 education
  • Preference will be given to high school graduates
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of general safety practices
  • General knowledge of basic tools and equipment
