Hours of Work:Various shifts in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Position Status:Up to 2 seasonal, full-time. This is an existing vacancy.

The Seasonal Labourer will gain experience across multiple departments by assisting our Roads, Parks, and Sewer & Water and Tourism crews at different times throughout the year. The position will perform various semi-skilled and skilled laboring tasks including but not limited to cleaning, painting, brick and concrete work, mowing, trimming, sweeping, gardening, flagging, and shoveling.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid “G” Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools such as hammer, drill, saw, wrenches, sockets etc, preferred.
  • Experience using and safe operation of equipment for brushing and tree-trimming, lawn maintenance and grass cutting equipment, and small tools preferred.
  • Chainsaw certification considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, co-workers, members of the public and other partners in service.
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift and carry 50 lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and or walk for long periods of time. Ability and willingness to work in varying climate conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Follows departmental operating policy and procedures, and provincial regulations regarding health, safety and work practices.
  • Works independently and proactively to ensure work is processed quickly and efficiently and that deadlines are met.
  • Must be able to be available for overtime and call-ins.
  • This position will be subject to lay off/recall at different times throughout the year.
