LABOURER (CO-OP STUDENT) - WATER TREATMENT, UTILITIES OPERATIONS

(Temporary, Full-time)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The District Of West Vancouver’s Utilities Department Is Currently Looking For An Enthusiastic And Hard-working Temporary Full-time Co-op Student Labourer To Join Our Utilities Operations Team. This Position Will Work Primarily With The Water Treatment Department At The Eagle Lake, Montizambert Creek, And Citrus Wynd Treatment Plants. The Successful Candidate Will Perform a Variety Of Manual Tasks Related To The Operation And Maintenance Of Water Treatment, Sewer And Storm Utility Systems. These Tasks Can Include

  • Conducting and monitoring the testing of water samples in the department’s in-house lab;
  • Maintaining equipment in a safe and secure manner;
  • Cleaning trucks and equipment as needed;
  • Operating basic hand and power tools; such as, shovels, saws, impact drills, sump pumps, etc.;
  • Slashing, brushing and trimming;
  • Maintaining daily pick-up records;
  • Providing manual labourer assistance on various tasks and assignments;
  • Other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate is enrolled in a registered Water Engineering Technology program at a post-secondary institution; and able to perform a 4 month work term from September to December 2025

The Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate The Ability To

  • Work effectively and efficiently in a team environment while maintaining a safety first mentality;
  • Use a variety of tools for general maintenance and construction work;
  • Work outdoors in a physically demanding role in all types of weather conditions;

Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following credentials:

  • Experience or training in utilities operations or construction;
  • EOCP Certification.

The candidates must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License. Please upload a copy of your ICBC Driver’s Abstract and Claim’s History with your application.

The successful candidates are required to supply an acceptable driver’s abstract, claims history, police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Starting Rate Of Pay

$30.88 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits.

This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase based on hours completed in the position.
