Job description

Waste Water Collections Maintenance has up to one (1) full-time, temporary position available with the Preventative Maintenance team working out of the Aurum site in Edmonton, AB.

This position is primarily responsible for supporting Preventative Maintenance in day-to-day activities related to the maintenance of the wastewater collection system. It involves assisting in the operation and maintenance of heavy-duty drainage system cleaning and inspection equipment. Work is performed with little supervision, and incumbents are accountable for executing written and verbal instructions from the Drainage System Combo Operator.

What you’d be responsible for

The Drainage System Labourer 3 reports to the Manager of Preventative Maintenance and includes responsibilities such as:

  • Assisting the Drainage System Combo Operator with activities like high-pressure flushing, releasing plugged mainlines, pumping catch basins, emergency response, CCTV sewer inspections, and conditional assessments.
  • Performing routine labouring work related to the operation and upkeep of Vactor Combo and MTV units.
  • Conducting daily checks, inspections, lubrication, and minor maintenance.
  • Providing guidance or training to less experienced Labourers and communicating issues to the Labour Foreman 3.
  • Reporting deficiencies in assets and equipment through IVARA, GeoFit, and to the Labour Foreman 3.
  • Possessing thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and drainage systems.
  • Ability to upgrade to an operator role by completing Drainage System Combo Operator certification and obtaining a Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement within 12 months.

What’s required to be successful

  • Grade 12, GED, or equivalent.
  • Alberta Environment Wastewater Collection Certification – Level 1 (Preference given to candidates with this certification). Candidates without it must be working towards it within 12 months.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License and ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver’s permit.
  • At least one year of experience working with combination units.
  • At least two years of experience in Wastewater Collections Systems maintenance.
  • Current compliance with all Drainage Services training requirements.
  • Intermediate skills in computer software such as IVARA, GeoFit, SWP App, MS Office, and Granite.
  • Knowledge of safe operation practices for the assigned equipment.
  • Proven skillful, safe operation of equipment in accordance with laws and regulations.
