Job description

Labourer II
Water and Wastewater
Seasonal Term - 1 position available

The Water and Wastewaterdepartment is accepting applications for one (1) seasonal term Labourer II position.

Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour
Status: The term will be approximately 3 months, starting in July

IMPORTANT: Day and weekend shift work will be required

DUTIES:

Your duties will include (but not limited to): strenuous manual labour such as shoveling, lifting, raking, climbing, prying or carrying heavy objects in water and wastewater situations. Repeating physically demanding tasks such as turning water valves, operating and flushing hydrants or lifting manhole lids will be required. Certain tasks may require using a ladder to get in and out of open excavations.

You should be prepared to work in the outdoors in an environment where you can be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dust and possibly wastewater.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. (GED)

  • Valid unrestricted class 5 Operator’s license with no more than 5 demerit points

  • Experience in the safe and proficient operation of tools and equipment for the position

  • Applicants must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public

  • Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary to carry out duties based upon oral and/or written instructions

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction within a team setting

  • Can work shifts and weekends as assigned

  • The physical ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions is critical

Candidates with GDL Licenses will not be considered
