Mission
  • Carries out manual tasks which contribute to the carrying out of the project for their professional specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) in observance of the safety guidelines.
Main Responsibilities
  • We are looking for reliable individuals who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SWCRR. As a highway maintenance seasonal laborer, you will be responsible for work such as setting up traffic accommodations, flagging, trimming, mowing, crack sealing, and installing signs, guardrail, and delineators. The highway maintenance seasonal labor position is comprised of operating minor tools and equipment and physical labor. In doing so, you will be providing essential services by ensuring the effective and efficient operations can be completed.
  • Participate and Apply AHSL Safety Practices to all aspects of your work including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Prepares for their work: arrives fit for duty, with adequate time ahead of shift, and ready for the workday with everything needed on hand.
  • Carries out work safely and efficiently under clear direction given by supervisor.
  • Maintains AHSL equipment and vehicles: clearing and verification of vehicles after use, carrying out standard upkeep (minor repairs) in observance of AHSL's environmental guidelines and regulations, notifying their supervisor in the event of anomalies.
Skills, Assets
  • A high school diploma or GED is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5 minimum) with a recent 5 years abstract and reliable transportation.
  • Previous experience in equipment operation is an asset:
    • Operating and Maintaining Tractors, Mowers, Trimmers, Skidsteers, Pickup Truck, and Trailer.
  • Road maintenance construction experience is considered an asset:
    • Crack sealing, Pothole Patching, Mowing, Trimming, Traffic Accommodation.
  • Must be able to work long shifts up to 12 hours including some night shifts.
  • Able to work in uncertain outdoor conditions and be able to work overtime hours when required.
  • Have a willingness to work physically in a team environment by assisting co-workers with other duties as needed.
  • Must be able to write, read, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Experience with safety regulations and safe practices.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment fit and drug/alcohol testing.
