Job summary

Startec Compression & Process is seeking a Labourer to support our Shepard Shop in Calgary. You will handle materials, operate cutting machinery, and assist with shop maintenance to ensure efficient production and safety.

The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and good communication as part of a team in a manufacturing environment. Training and competitive wages are provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, alcohol, and drug test.
  • Familiarity with pipe materials/grade would be asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications would be asset.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to assembly/fabrication work.
  • Good physical condition and stamina for manual labor and varied conditions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Forklift and crane operation certification preferred.
  • Basic understanding of machining processes and equipment.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).

Responsibilities

  • Operate material handling equipment to load, unload, and organize materials.
  • Run band saws and cutting machinery to spec materials and finish surfaces.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and assist in installing new equipment.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe shop environments; report hazards.
  • Participate in safety talks and follow all safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with teammates in structural and milling departments to reach production goals.

Most of our solutions are related to Energy Transition and carbon reduction industries.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Labourer to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). The Labourer is integral to the smooth operation of the production facility, responsible for tasks such as material handling, machine operation, shop maintenance, and more. This role requires strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective communication skills are essential for success.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
MATERIAL HANDLING & MACHINING (Weighting 50%)
Material Handling
  • Safely operate forklifts and cranes to load and unload materials.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or accidents.
  • Assist in inventory management by organizing and tacking materials in the shop
Machine Operations
  • Operate band saws and other cutting machinery to precisely cut materials according to specifications.
  • Perform deburring and finishing operations on machined products to ensure smooth surfaces and proper fitment.
MAINTENANCE & HANDY WORK (Weighting 35%)
Shop Maintenance
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
  • Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment or systems
  • Report any major maintenance or repair needs to supervisors for further action
  • Participate in preventative maintenance programs to ensure the longevity of equipment and facilities
Safety and Cleanliness
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the manufacturing shop, including work areas and equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately to the appropriate personnel
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks or safety walks in the production facility or yard.
MAVERICK MINDSET (Weighting 15%)
Quality Assurance
  • Assist in quality control inspections by identifying and reporting defects or discrepancies in materials or finished products.
  • Follow established procedures and standards to maintain product quality and consistency.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the structural department and mill to achieve production goals and deadlines.
  • Communicate any issues or concerns related to materials, equipment, or processes to supervisors or team leaders.
