Sika Canada is seeking a Lab Technician to join our R&D/Quality team at the plant. You will perform quality control testing, support R&D projects, and report results to the R&D Engineer or Supervisor.

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Relevant concrete lab or field experience is a plus.
• ACI technician certification is an asset.
• Ability to communicate in French and English (verbal and written).
• Experience with MS Office/Outlook/Excel; ability to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Quality control testing of plant production; verify samples and report results.
• Report non-conforming results to R&D Engineer or Supervisor.
• Perform lab tests for R&D projects and communicate results.
• Maintain lab equipment and report supply shortages.
• Test for Operations to improve plant efficiency and rework non-conforming product.
• Assist weekly meetings with R&D Engineer and Supervisor.
• Support sales by testing non-conforming products and reporting results.
• Report technical results from job-site data collected by sales team.
• Maintain laboratory facilities and cleanliness.

Job Description

The Lab Technician assists the Research and Development Engineer and the team by working on quality control as well as research and development projects and other tasks when required.

What you will be doing:

• Responsible for quality control testing of plant production at the designated plant including verifying samples, testing products and reporting the results.
• Ensure all non-conforming results are reported to the R&D Engineer or the Supervisor
• Responsible for performing laboratory tests for research and development projects for R&D and communicating the test results
• Report supplies shortage to the R&D Engineer or Supervisor and maintain lab equipment in good conditions.
• Perform tests for Operations with a goal of improving plant efficiency and reworking non-conforming product.
• Assist to the weekly meeting with the R&D Engineer and Supervisor
• Support the sales team by testing non-conforming products and report results to the R&D Engineer or Supervisor.
• Report technical results from job site data collected by the sales team
• Other duties as assigned
• Maintenance of the laboratory

Qualifications

• High school diploma.
• Relevant concrete laboratory or field work experience considered an asset.
• ACI technician certification is considered an asset.
• Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in French and English required
• Experience using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and the able to learn new software
• Attention to detail.
• Works well independently and without direct supervision

WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Dusty and dirty environment
• Uniform provided
• Hearing protection required in some areas due to loud environment
• Handling of various chemicals (i.e. cementitious materials), proper respirator fit, and wear required
• Substantial repetitive physical effort required - ability to lift up to 30kg
• Safely working with or around moving machinery/equipment
