Job description

Summary

Performs core processing on heavy oil and conventional core in the Routine Rocks Department. Responsibilities include core slabbing/sandblasting, core extrusion, sampling, running core gamma, and measuring petrophysical properties. The position reports directly to the Rocks Supervisor and ensures client deadlines are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Comply with Safety Responsibilities as outlined in the Safety Responsibility Policy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient workplace, addressing safety infractions promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Quality Management Systems requirements.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of Management Systems, aiming to improve performance and reduce nonconformities.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by supervisors.
  • Perform core tasks competently, including:
    • ABACUS – Small Plug Bulk Volume Determination Using Mercury Displacement
    • Sandblasting Routine Core
    • Operation of the Ultra Centrifuge Extractor
    • Small Plug Ultra Grain
    • Permeability – Small Plugs
  • Train to be proficient in the roles of Lab Analyst and Conventional Technician.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs and equipment maintenance to ensure optimal functioning. Respond to on-call situations after hours.
  • Learn to properly import and enter data, generate plots, and produce final data reports.
  • Review data and calculations to ensure accuracy.
  • Follow quality control guidelines aligned with the QA/QC program to ensure analytical accuracy.
  • Assist Senior Analyst, Coordinator, or Supervisor in conducting client viewings.
  • Respond to on-call situations after hours.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure timely and accurate project completion.
Qualification Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding analytical testing and data relevance.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed for deadlines and rush jobs.
Physical Demands

The employee must regularly sit, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, and bend. Must work in an environment with odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without adverse reactions. Use of personal protective equipment, including respiratory gear, is required and provided. The department offers training, engineering controls, and product information to minimize exposure risks.
