RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Department / Research Program: Cardiovascular Health across the Lifespan Program

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Medical laboratory technicians conduct routine medical laboratory tests and set up, clean and maintain medical laboratory equipment. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Demonstrates techniques.

General Duties

  • Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments,
  • Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology,
  • Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of assays, analyses and tests such as tissue culture, molecular techniques, electrophoresis, chromatography and histological procedures.
  • Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.

Required Skills

  • The position requires the candidate to have experience developing laboratory approaches to the design and validation of chemical tests,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Good analytical and logic skills,
  • Problem assessment and problem solving abilities,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision,
  • Demonstrate diplomacy, discretion and good judgment.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will come with extensive experience in the following areas:

  • Physics and applications of microfluidics in biology,
  • Microfabrication techniques including photolithography and soft lithography,
  • Multidisciplinary in vitro diagnostics,
  • Nanoscale flow cytometry,
  • Aqueous two-phase systems,
  • Electrospray atomization microparticle generation,
  • Whole blood processing and plasma isolation,
  • Preclinical and clinical research ethics,
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical correlation methods,
  • Proficiency and experience with SimVascular modeling and simulation (preferred but not required).

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $41,550.60 - $62,353.20.

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Work Site: Remote
