RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary
Department / Research Program: Endocrine Genetics Lab (CHHD).

General Duties

  • Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments,
  • DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, séquençage Sanger, IGV ,
  • Library preparation and sequencing,
  • Daily Management of the laboratory including support for the supervision of students, ordering materials and reagents, keeping good records etc.,
  • Prepares and sets up materials and equipment,
  • Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files,
  • Demonstrates the operation of apparatus or techniques,
  • Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing,
  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the work area,
  • Maintains inventory. Purchases equipment and materials,
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge,
  • Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, centrifuges, thermocycler, electrophoresis apparatus, computers and audio-visual equipment,
  • Manages waste disposal,
  • Communication with different clinics around Canada for a clinical trial,
  • Murine colony management.

Education / Experience

Education: Diploma of College Studies (DEC)
Field of Study: in a related field
Work Experience: 1-2 years

Required Skills

  • Attention to detail,
  • Dexterity,
  • Understanding of complex lab machinery and computer programs used to conduct tests,
  • ASSET: Certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $40,531.40 - $60,824.40.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
