Job description

Summary

Performs laboratory tests in the Thin Section and Particle Size Analysis labs. Responsible for calibration of equipment and QC of lab data. Position reports directly to Rocks Supervisor and ensure client deadlines are met.

Duties And Responsibilities


  • Must comply with Safety Responsibilities explained in the Safety Responsibility Policy.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and efficient workplace and must ensure that all safety infractions are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with the Health, Safety, and Quality Management Systems requirements.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Management Systems, including improvement of performance and reduction of nonconformities
  • Prepare samples for analysis by following prescribed cleaning, division and treatment methods.
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate various types of laboratory equipment such as sonic sifter apparatus, balance, laser microtrac analyser, sonic probe and bath, centrifuge, and thin section preparation equipment.
  • Review data to assure accurate analytical results.
  • Document incoming samples to record receipt and monitor progress.
  • Dispose of samples in a manner which complies with environmental requirements.
  • Perform appropriate quality control guidelines in concert with the QA/QC program that is utilised in the department to assure accurate analytical results.
  • Perform other assigned duties to ensure that projects are completed on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Perform special projects as required or requested by supervisors.


Qualification Requirements


  • Post secondary diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to interface and communicate with clients regarding the relevance, validity and application of analytical testing performed and data generated.
  • Must be able to work Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, flexible to work on evenings and weekends for meeting client deadlines and rush jobs.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, and bend. Must be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea.

The department provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment in an effort to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of these materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment.
