Position Summary

Laboratory Technician, Genetics Program: Your goal in this position is to work with the laboratory technician and Technologists in the Cytogenetics Laboratory. You will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills and will work effectively on an interdisciplinary team. You will work under the supervision of laboratory technologists. You should demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow protocols. This role requires self-motivation, professionalism, and adaptability in a demanding environment. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate through teaching, learning, research, and innovation. You will also contribute to health and safety policies to ensure a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and families.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Receive and accession samples into the lab database (Shire)
  2. Set up, harvest samples, and perform tissue culture duties
  3. Prepare slides and reagents
  4. Maintain supplies and equipment
  5. Perform quality and safety protocols
  6. Accurately maintain records
  7. Perform additional duties as per laboratory policies
Qualifications
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a professional association such as MLPAO or CMLTO
  • Laboratory experience required; Cytogenetics experience is an asset
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset
